National Historic Landmark and gift of the Republic of Cape Verde, Schooner Ernestina is the official vessel of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Launched in Essex in 1894 as the Effie M. Morrissey, she sailed as a Grand Banks fishing schooner, far-north Arctic explorer and trans-Atlantic Cape Verdean packet. Her homeport is New Bedford, ship’s berth: New Bedford State Pier, Southwest face.
