Your Theatre, Inc. Presents "A Murder is Announced" @ Your Theatre, Inc.

A Murder is Announced by Agatha Christie, adapted by Leslie Darbon, Directed by Robin Richard.

An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation.

‘Had the audience on the edge of their seats.’ -Evening Post

Dock-u-mentaries: The Defection of Simas Kudirka @ New Bedford Whaling National Park Theater

In 1970, Russian radio operator Simas Kudirka jumps aboard the deck of a U.S. Coast Guard ship in Martha’s Vineyard and announces his intention to defect. But, because of a quirk in American law, the sympathetic Coast Guard officers are unable to offer him political asylum, and watch as Kudirka’s fellow crew members forcibly return him to his ship. Based on a true story, this Emmy Award winning movie starring Alan Arkin explores that fate of Kudirka after his attempt to defect.

The screening takes place at the New Bedford Whaling National Park’s Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Helen Granger
The Talking Animal Series
New Works

You know her, you love her, she needs no introduction. She is the G in S&G Project Gallery and we are finally bringing her out from the back of the room to show NEW WORKS in her Talking Animals series.

Helen says, “The talking animal series grows directly out of my Inner Demons and other observational work. Most of the inspiration for this series comes from meditation on myself, humans, and life in general.”

“Almost all of my artwork starts with drawing. My sketchbooks are filled with creatures spouting “their” thoughts. I choose from this lot which animals and which words to make into paintings. This work plays with our cultural history of using animals as substitutes for humans in stories to teach and to explain ourselves to others.”

“These concepts and my way of painting started well before the World Wide Web and they now relate directly to our cultural need to meme. My own work has become a reflection of society at large. I enjoy the irony of making beautiful oil paintings out of simple, sometimes silly, thoughts.”

“In this new work in the series I am using my graphic design knowledge to concentrate on the text—using calligraphy rather than block lettering—and focusing on the quality of the painting. I want to grab the viewers attention and engage them in a dialogue. Each animal confronts You. They face the viewer directly or gaze in the distance but always out to you to give you their point of you. Connection through a painting from my mind to your eyes to your mind.”

Join us at our closing reception for Helen’s great work and our final show at Hatch Street.
