Set on the beautiful South Coast of Massachusetts, the Buzzards Bay Swim is a 1.2-mile point-to-point open water swim across outer New Bedford Harbor. Assisted by a robust safety patrol, swimmers navigate through the scenic harbor, passing by the iconic Butler Flats Lighthouse and the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier, one of the largest stone structures on the East Coast. At the fun and festive finish line, swimmers arrive at a beach party featuring a live steel drum band, pancakes cooked to order, gourmet coffee, free massages, and local beer!

Swimmers fundraise to protect clean water by supporting the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s work across land protection, science, advocacy, and education. Kayak escorts and fins/swim bubbles permitted. Team participation is welcome and encouraged.

Registration fee and $150 fundraising minimum (pay-or-raise) includes parking, shuttle service, bag check, event swim cap, chip timing, snacks, breakfast, beverages, modern cut event t-shirt, live music, post-swim massage, awards and prizes, and a hefty bronze finisher’s medal custom made by local artisans.

“The Swim has become an integral part of my summer; I am determined to participate every year that I can. It combines two of my favorite things: swimming and protecting the ocean that I love.” – Halle B., 7-time swimmer
